Free Code 39 barcode generator
Make a Code 39 barcode from an equipment number, stock code or asset ID. Enter your content and download PNG or SVG without an account.
Simple barcodes for your own identifiers
Code 39, also called Code 3 of 9, is useful for short identifiers on stock and equipment labels. It stores the text you enter, such as ASSET-001, so a scanner can return it without someone typing it.
Long identifiers make wide barcodes. Leave the white space at both ends and do not squeeze the bars to fit a label. SVG is convenient for print layouts; PNG is ready for documents. Test a printed sample with your intended scanner.
Code 39 questions
- Why are lowercase letters rejected?
- Standard Code 39 uses uppercase Latin letters, not lowercase. Use Code 128 or Code 39 Extended if case matters; changing letters to uppercase changes the encoded identifier.
- Should I type an asterisk at each end?
- No. Enter only your identifier. The generator adds the start and stop patterns itself; you do not need a barcode font or surrounding asterisks.
