Why doesn’t my phone scan this like a QR code?

The camera or scanning app must support PDF417, not just QR codes. On a dedicated scanner, PDF417 may need to be enabled. If you want people to open a web link with their usual phone camera, choose a QR code instead.

How do I check the code before printing?

Leave the white margins intact, keep the image in proportion and scan a sample at its final printed size with the device you intend to use.

Using PDF417

PDF417 stores information in several stacked rows of bars. It is useful when a document or label needs more than a short reference number. Despite its name, it is a barcode format, not a PDF file; this tool exports barcode images, not PDF documents.

Download PNG for documents or SVG for a sharp, resizable print layout. Generation takes place in your browser, without an account.
